University of Oregon Develops Nanoscience and Microtechnology Institute

EUGENE, ORE. -

The University of Oregon will begin construction in fall 2005 on the $8.5-million Oregon Nanoscience and Microtechnology Institute (ONAMI) facility in Eugene, Ore. To be constructed entirely underground, the 19,000-sf single-floor project will be excavated, anchored to the bedrock, and then covered up again to provide maximum stability and vibrational isolation for the facility's specialized instrumentation. Other projects at the University include:

• A $46 million facility for the College of Education will begin construction in 2007.
• The $7.9 million Miller Theater will begin construction in fall 2005.
• A $6.6 million, two building expansion of the Lillis Business complex will begin construction in early 2006. 
• The $87 million Living and Learning Center residence hall will reach completion next fall.
• A $10 million expansion and renovation of the Student Health Center will begin in fall 2005.
• A $15.2 million project at the School of Music will begin construction in fall 2006.
