DAVIS, CALIF. - The University of California, Davis is constructing the new Neurosciences Building. Designed by SmithGroup, the 238,000-gsf (138,000-nsf) facility houses 102,515-sf of vivarium, laboratory, and laboratory support space. The building supports seven ongoing programs and three new initiatives: neurobiological and psychiatric diseases; systems and cognitive neuroscience; developmental neuroscience; molecular and cellular neuroscience; computational neurobiology and bioinformatics; women’s health and gender-based neuroscience; and behavioral neuroscience and neurobiology exercise. The lab planning module for the building is 10.5’ by 28’. The building cost was $81 million with an equipment cost of $7.5 million. The project team included Research Facilities Design and engineering firm Gayner.
