LOUISVILLE, KYE. -
The University of Louisville is constructing a 45,000-sf Regional Biodefense Laboratory on its East Louisville campus in Shelby County, Kye. Slated to open in the beginning of 2009, the facility was funded by a $22 million federal grant from the National Institutes of Health's National Institute for Allergy and Infectious Diseases and $12.6 million in University funding. The building will house the University's Center for Predictive Medicine. The BSL-3 facility will support vaccine development for emerging infectious diseases as well as developing solutions to bioterrorism. The facility broke ground in 2006.
