Auburn University will begin construction in late 2023 on the $200 million STEM + Ag Complex in Auburn, Ala. Housing programs for the College of Science and Mathematics and the College of Agriculture, the 285,000-sf complex will accommodate the departments of mathematics and statistics, biological sciences, geosciences, horticulture, entomology and plant pathology, and crop, soil, and environmental sciences. The three-building development will provide wet and dry research labs, offices for principal investigators, collaboration spaces, and shared lab support areas. Featuring an expansive atrium, the project will also include instructional labs for agricultural science courses, an outdoor classroom, and a teaching garden.

The architectural team of Lord Aeck Sargent and Goodwyn Mills Cawood have designed the facility to emphasize right-sizing and the sharing of resources, resulting in significant space efficiencies. The new complex will be nearly 8,000 sf smaller than the existing buildings it will replace, while still supporting increased enrollment and growth. The project team includes Hoar Construction as general contractor with JE Dunn as construction manager. Site work began in summer of 2023 and occupancy is expected in summer of 2026.
