University of Puget Sound to Dedicate Science Laboratory

TACOMA, WASH. -

The University of Puget Sound will dedicate Harned Hall, a $25-million science laboratory building, in Tacoma, Wa. on Sept. 29. 2006. The 51,000-sf facility is the anchor of the University's new $63-million science complex and was constructed to meet LEED™ Silver standards. Designed to foster interaction among faculty and students as well as collaboration between disciplines, the building includes laboratory spaces for biology, chemistry, environmental science, geology, and physics.

Harned Hall includes a 10,000-sf courtyard with a teaching garden and a glass gazebo cafe. The hall's completion marks the first phase of the University's comprehensive science center project. Phase two includes the renovation of the 110,000-sf Thompson Hall,  which houses classrooms, lecture halls, and meeting rooms; completion is expected in 2008. The Slater Museum of Natural History will also be renovated in the second phase.

The architect for Harned Hall is SRG Partnership and the laboratory design consultant is Research Facilities Design.
