CHICAGO - The University of Chicago dedicated its new 400,000-sf Center for Integrative Science (CIS) building in late April 2006. The facility is designed for cutting-edge interdisciplinary research in medicine and technology, much of which will be done at the nano-level, where several sciences converge. The facility will house the Institute for Biophysical Dynamics, a joint effort of the Division of Biological Sciences and the division of Physical Sciences.
The $200-million CIS will also house the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, the Chemistry Department, the Ben May Cancer Research Institute, the James Franck Institute, and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. When fully occupied, the building will accommodate 100 senior scientists, plus 700 additional ressearchers and students.
