Florida Atlantic University Develops Alzheimer's Research Center

BOCA RATON, FLA. -

Florida Atlantic University has selected Boca Raton-based Kaufman Lynn General Contractors to build the $2.4-million first phase of the Louis and Anne Green Alzheimer’s Research Center and Care Facility in Boca Raton. Designed by Saltz Michelson Architects of West Palm Beach, the building will house the gerontological research program, the memory and wellness program, and the college of nursing’s Alzheimer’s-related teaching and outreach programs.

The first phase is comprised of a 17,000-sf teaching and interdisciplinary research facility that will include a nursing practice site providing day care services for Alzheimer’s patients, a library, kitchen, art room, living rooms, game rooms, examination rooms, and office space. Construction began in February 2004 and will reach completion in eight months. A planned $14-million second phase will create 30 nursing areas, an assisted living facility for 90 residents, a clinical area, and other facilities.
