The University of Michigan in Ann Arbor’s $17.7-million, 107,800-gsf Dana Building Phase II Renovation project is under construction. Creating new program facilities on the fourth floor, the renovation also includes new plumbing, heating, cooling, and ventilation systems, with upgrades to electrical and fire protection systems. Most spaces not recently renovated will be renovated in the second phase. As part of the University’s sustainable environment design initiative agenda, the “Greening of Dana” will maximize the health of the built environment while minimizing the adverse impacts on the natural environment both during and after construction. Began in May 2001, the phased construction, allowing for building occupancy, is estimated for completion in January of 2003, with major construction taking place during the summers of 2000, 2001, and 2002. The design team is comprised of Quinn Evans Architects, William McDonough & Partners, and Ove Arup & Partners, with JM Olson Corp. as general contractor.
