Walter Reed Army Medical Center Opens Military Rehabilitation Center

WASHINGTON, D.C. -

Walter Reed Army Medical Center opened the Military Advanced Training Center (MATC) in Washington, D.C. on Sept. 13, 2007. The 31,000-sf facility offers unprecedented medical care and services for amputees and limb-loss patients. The facility provides “one stop shopping” for Warrior Care, offering therapy and exercise areas, computer simulation training for military specific tasks; and offices for psychologists, Veterans Affairs representatives, social workers, benefits counselors, researchers, physicians, and nurse case managers. The project team included architect Ellerbe Becket, contractor Turner Construction, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The facility was delivered on budget and ahead of schedule. The facility includes upper and lower extremity exercise areas, a firearms training simulator, a gait lab for analysis and fitting of prosthetic limbs, and a computer assisted rehabilitation environment.
