Franklin & Marshall College Breaks Ground on Life Sciences and Philosophy Building

LANCASTER, PA. -

Franklin & Marshall College celebrated the groundbreaking of the $45-million Ann & Richard Barshinger Life Sciences & Philosophy Building in October 2005. Designed by Boston-based Einhorn Yafee Prescott Architecture & Engineering, the 102,000-sf facility will feature 22 research labs; 14 student research areas; 12 discussion areas; 11 teaching labs; an 125-seat lecture hall; a humanities meeting common and garden; a three-story atrium; a greenhouse; and a vivarium housing primates, rodents, and birds used in psychology research. Combining biology, psychology, and philosophy, the building is designed for maximum flexibility and will also house two programs: Biological Foundation of Behavior and Scientific and Philosophical Studies of the Mind. Occupancy is slated for mid-summer of 2007. The project construction manager is Blue Bell, Pa.-based Skanska USA Building Inc.
