Georgia Tech Constructs Nanotechnology Center

The Georgia Institute of Technology is constructing the $80 million Marcus Nanotechnology Building in Atlanta. Ground was broken on the project, which houses the NRCB (Nanotechnology Research Center Building) cleanrooms, in August of 2006 with completion slated for summer of 2008. The project is comprised of five stories of laboratory and office space and a 30,000-sf, three-level cleanroom. Uniting the physical and biological sciences, the project is constructed with a waffle deck design of fiberglass reinforced plastic dome forms for optimal airflow, under-floor services, and load rigidity. Designed by M+W Zander and built by The Whiting-Turner Contracting Co., the facility will house 20,000-sf of nanotechnology physical sciences and engineering with 10,000-sf of biological and biomedical nanotechnology research.
