Purdue Builds Structural Biology Building

WEST LAFAYETTE, IND. -
Purdue University is constructing the Wayne T. and Mary T. Hockmeyer Hall of Structural Biology in West Lafayette, Ind. The $30 million, 65,690-sf building broke ground in October of 2007 and will house the Markey Center for Structural Biology. Completion is slated for fall of 2009. The building will include eight specialized labs and eight general labs for work in the areas of protein production, cell and virus culture, large molecule crystallization, X-ray diffraction, nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, electron microscopy, and analytical and biophysical instrumentation. In addition, the facility will provide 16 offices for structural biology faculty, 33 offices for students and staff, and three conference rooms. The laboratory design consultant for the project is RFD (Research Facilities Design).
