Video Surveillance Installed at US Postal Service Facilities

BRICK, N.J. -

The US Postal Service has completed installation of over 175 advanced video surveillance systems in postal facilities to date. This includes systems in the Trenton, Hamilton and Eatontown facilities that were under national scrutiny as a result of the Anthrax terrorist threat. The video systems, installed by North American Video, are deployed in both retail and processing areas in New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania facilities. Certified to government standards, there are two system configurations designed to provide coverage over public and restricted areas. The US Postal Services' Criminal Investigation System (CIS) is designed to provide video coverage of restricted processing areas where mail is sorted for delivery. The CIS installations incorporate VICON dome cameras with pan/tilt/zoom operation controlled by a Vicon matrix switcher. To view areas where the public has direct access, the US Postal Service employs Retail Security Systems (RSS) to monitor traffic and customer activity. RSS installations feature fixed VICON CCTV cameras automatically switched by Vicon multiplexers.
