The University of Toronto opened the 20,550-metre Terence Donnelly Centre for Cellular and Biomolecular Research (CCBR) in January of 2006. Designed by a joint venture of Toronto's architectsAlliance and Stuttgart, Germany-based Behnisch, Behnisch and Partner, the 12-story building contains wet and dry laboratories, research offices, three seminar rooms, a six-story garden and atrium, and mechanical operations on the seventh floor. 

The facility includes a number of sustainable design features, including high-performance insulated glazing and separate mechanical systems for labs and offices to promote better air quality. Housing interdisciplinary genomics research including the fields of medicine, engineering, biology, and computer science, the flexible and open research facility reached completion in September 2005. The project team included: Yolles Partnership Ltd., structural; Hh Angus & Associates, mechanical/electrical; Flad & Associates, lab consultant; Vanbots Construction Corporation, general contractor; and Diana Gerrard Landscape Architecture.
