West Point Military Academy Renovates and Expands Bartlett Hall

WEST POINT, N.Y. -

The U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y., has selected URS Corporation to design the renovation of Bartlett Hall and its expansion into the attached Cadet Library. URS will provide comprehensive programming, planning, architectural design, and engineering services for the improvements to the historic 1913 building. Together the adjacent and connected buildings total over 321,260 gsf and will house teaching and research laboratories for chemistry, biology, physics, photonics, classrooms, offices, and support space.

All existing library functions except archives will move from the Cadet Library into the new Thomas Jefferson Library currently under construction. The vacated space will provide much needed room for the expansion of the academic science center, which will provide the modern facilities required for the Academy's science curriculum. The major renovation includes asbestos abatement, accessibility, energy conservation, life safety, and seismic improvements. It will also provide special facilities for chemical imaging, storage, exhaust, and recirculating chilled water for laboratories. The rehabilitation of the building is scheduled to be performed in phases beginning in 2009 with completion anticipated in 2013. Administration of the project is being performed by the United States Army Corps of Engineers, New York District.
