GRAFTON, MASS. - Tufts University's Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine has contracted
Flad & Associates of Madison, Wisc. to design the 31,000-sf regional biocontainment laboratory in Grafton, Mass. Construction will begin in spring of 2007 on the $20.8-million facility with occupancy expected in 2009. Funded by a $15.6-million grant from NIAID, the project will house 1,800-sf of BSL-2 laboratories and 6,100-sf of BSL-3 laboratories. Seven percent of the building, located in the Grafton Science Park, will be office space. The facility will accommodate research on emerging infective diseases and biodefense.
