Arkansas Department of Health Builds New Lab

LITTLE ROCK, ARK. -

Opening in early 2006, the Arkansas Department of Health 's new $23-million, 82,000-sf public health laboratory will serve as a first responder facility, accommodating biological and chemical terrorism preparedness reaction for the state. Designed by Lord, Aeck & Sargent, the three-story building will house 50,000 sf of laboratory facilities, including 4,422 sf of BSL-3 containment space, as well as state-of-the-art labs to support the analytical, educational, and technical investigation of environmental chemistry, genetic screening, sanitary and clinical microbiology, immunology, virology, parasitology, mycology and alcohol testing.
