McGill University Constructs Bellini Life Sciences Center

MONTREAL, QUEBEC, CANADA -

McGill University is constructing the $53-million Bellini Life Sciences Center in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Designed as the anchor facility for the largest research complex of its kind in eastern Canada, the project is funded by $21.3-million from the Canadian Foundation for Innovation, matching funds from the Government of Quebec, a $17.5-million grant from Quebec's Minstere de la Recherche, Science et Technologies, and a $10-million donation from Dr. Francesco Bellini.

The open-lab, multi-disciplinary facility will accommodate 60 primary scientists from McGill's Faculties of Science and Medicine and McGill University Health Centre, and up to 600 support staff. Research will focus on five biomedical areas: chemical biology, cancer, genetics of complex traits, cell information transfer systems, and developmental and reproductive biology. The Life Sciences Center will be physically connected to the existing McIntyre Medical Building and the Stewart Biology Building. The construction manager is Decarel Company of Montreal.
