Houston Healthcare has selected Gilbane Building Company as the construction manager at-risk for phase I of its master plan to ultimately replace Houston Medical Center, the main hospital campus in Warner Robins, Georgia. Phase I will consist of a new central energy plant, a new four-story bed tower, and renovations to the existing 186-bed facility. The new building will be approximately 134,000 sf including a 30,000-sf basement. The current program includes admitting, dietary, administration and public support on the first floor; 25 post-partum beds, 10 medical surgery beds, and a nursery on the second floor; 20 critical care beds and 12 step-down beds on the third floor; and 36 medical surgery beds on the fourth floor. The basement will include storage, education, and mechanical space.

There is also a planned 1,500-sf addition to the existing cath lab and approximately 35,000 sf of renovation space, including clinical laboratory, health information services, and administration support. Gilbane will provide preconstruction services, including budgeting, cost control, development of a master project schedule, and technical consultation during the design stages. Actual construction is expected to begin in early 2007. The architectural and engineering team is led by HKS Inc. in association with WMA Architects.
