Defense R&D Canada Opens Counter Terrorism Technology Centre

SUFFIELD, ALBERTA, CANADA -

Defense R&D Canada (DRDC) officially opened the Counter Terrorism Technology Centre (CTTC) at DRDC Suffield in Alberta on October 18, 2006. As the only laboratory in Canada with the expertise and facilities to safely work with both chemical and biological warfare agent hazards, the three-part facility will accommodate research and development in the field of defensive countermeasures against the threat of chemical and biological weapons. The Lecture/Training Facility will provide laboratory and classroom space for scientists and personnel to train in live agent protocols. The Indoor Training Arena will house year-round testing and evaluation of equipment, materials, and protocols, and will accommodate additional training operations. The expanded Chemical/Biological Forensics Reference Lab will enable the identifying and storing of live agents as well as contaminated samples.
