DeWitt Army Hospital is planning to replace its Fort Belvoir facility with a $110-million, 430,000-sf state-of-the-art hospital. Serving the 151,000 eligible uniformed services health care beneficiaries in Northern Virginia, the replacement hospital will be accompanied by redevelopment of the Regional Community Support Center as part of the Army's master plan for Fort Belvoir. The National Capital Planning Commission has approved the plans for both developments, but Dewitt must obtain approval from the Defense Medical Facility Office, a branch of the Department of Defense, to proceed with construction. The planned three-story hospital will feature a helipad, ambulance shelter, and an 885-car parking lot. As primarily an outpatient hospital performing same-day surgeries, the facility will contain only 27 beds. The new hopsital will employ approximately 800 health care professionals.

The Fort Belvoir master plan also includes a 5,000-sf fast food restaurant with 100 parking spaces, a 3,000-sf credit union with 30 parking spaces, a 15,000-sf recreation center with 60 parking spaces, and an expansion of the Post Exchange building encompassing 138,000 sf.
