Penn State University Develops New Agricultural Sciences Facilities

STATE COLLEGE, PA. -

Pennsylvania State University has selected the Philadelphia office of Gilbane as construction manager for two major projects - the Forest Resources and Food Science buildings. As part of the College of Agricultural Sciences, the Forest Resources Building is 95,000 sf, providing fifty percent more space. The $27.3-million facility includes four teaching laboratories, two technology classrooms, three computer labs, and a 150-seat auditorium. The research component includes the Schatz Tree Genetics Center and labs for fisheries, water resources, wildlife, and wood products. The project will seek LEED® certification for which Gilbane will oversee the documentation process.

The new 126,000-sf Food Science Building will have pilot plants containing intermediate-scale processing and manufacturing equipment, plus a teaching laboratory and classroom. The $39-million facility also includes offices, conference rooms, research space, microbiology teaching labs, sensory lab, library, and computer lab.
