College of Marin to Build Science/Math/Central Plant Building

KENTFIELD, CALIF. -

The College of Marin will build a new Science/Math/Central Plant Complex in Kentfield, Calif. The building will accommodate approximately 41,000 nsf of instructional and science laboratories, classrooms, offices, meeting rooms, and administrative space for the departments of physical, earth, and life sciences; mathematics; environmental landscape; and health sciences. The facility will also house a new campus data center and central utility plant in a building complex totaling approximately 77,000 gsf.

Designed by Anshen + Allen with Research Facilities Design (RFD) as laboratory design consultant, the project has been registered with the U.S. Green Building Council's LEED® program and will be seeking to achieve a high level of sustainable design and energy-efficient performance. A minimum of fifty percent of the electric energy required for operation of the new Science/Math/Central Plant Complex will be provided on-site through renewable solar energy technologies. Additionally, a new subterranean geo-thermal field which will further enhance the reductions in energy usage is being planned for the College of Marin's modernization of their Kentfield campus.
