Aberdeen Proving Ground Initiates BRAC Construction

ABERDEEN PROVING GROUND, MD. -

The U.S. Army broke ground in March of 2008 on a $477 million communications facility at Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland. Part of the BRAC (Base Realignment and Closure) initiative, the 1.5 million-sf facility is expected to reach occupancy in fall of 2010. The general contractor is Whiting-Turner Contractors. The building will house C4ISR (command, control, communications, computers, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance) operations relocated from a base in Fort Monmouth, N.J. that is slated for closure. Additionally, construction will begin in summer of 2008 on a test and evaluation center and a medical research facility at Aberdeen Proving Ground.
