Published January 2008

ST. LOUIS, MO. -

The Shriners Hospital for Children will begin construction in spring of 2009 on 147,000-sf hospital at the Washington University Medical Center in St. Louis. Supporting research and clinical collaboration with Washington University School of Medicine, the facility will feature a floor devoted entirely to research on areas including bone, muscle and nerve development, and disease. Shriners purchased the 3.75 acre site on which the building will be sited, enabling St. Louis Shriners Hospital to return to the medical school campus. The new facility will feature additional operating rooms and fewer inpatient rooms than Shriners’ existing hospital to accommodate the increase of outpatient procedures. Completion is expected in spring of 2012. The project architect is Gresham, Smith & Partners.
