University of Denver Opens Chambers Center for the Advancement of Women

DENVER -

The University of Denver opened the $8.6-million Merle Catherine Chambers Center for the Advancement of Women on September 9, 2004 . The 32,000-sf facility will house three organizations: The Women’s Foundation of Colorado, the Women’s College of the University of Denver , and Higher Education Resource Services, Mid-America (HERS). A key design concept in the Chamber Center , which broke ground in May 2003, is a spiraling chambered nautilus design referencing the Golden Mean, a mathematical constant that is found in nature; this motif will be used in custom furniture, a large stained glass window in the building’s front, signage, and a spiral staircase near the building’s entry. The Chamber Center features meeting rooms, classrooms, and a 30-station student computer lab.

The facility is part of a $378-million expansion and improvement project on the University of Denver campus that includes the construction of new law and music schools, the Robert and Judi Newman Center for the Performing Arts, the Ritchie Center for Sports & Wellness, the Fisher Early Learning Center , and the new Daniels College of Business building.
