The University of Washington (UW) is building the 280,000-sf Bioengineering and Genomic Sciences Building in Seattle. The project houses research space for the UW School of Medicine and its Department of Genome Sciences, as well as the Department of Bioengineering. Ground will be broken in August 2004 with completion slated for 2005.

The University is also developing UW Medicine South Lake Union which could create over 800,000 sf of biomedical research space. Phase one of the project, a $51.7-million renovation of the four-story former Washington Natural Gas facility, is currently under way. Upon completion, the 105,000-sf building will house state-of-the-art lab facilities. UW is also engaged in the $7-million reconstruction of the Center for Urban Horticulture’s Merrill Hall and the $104-million expansion of the University's Business School.
