HCA Expands Hospital Facilities

SAN ANTONIO -

Healthcare giant HCA has selected Skanska to develop several addition and renovation construction projects. These include the Metropolitan Methodist Hospital and the Northeast Methodist Hospital, both located in San Antonio, Texas. Skanska will also be renovating the Lewis-Gale Hospital in Salem, Virginia. The company provided feasibility/pre-construction services for these three projects. The Metropolitan Methodist Hospital will include a 90,000-sf women’s services center, a catheter lab addition and a new connector bridge. Renovations include 23,000-sf for the cardiology department, emergency department and the post-surgery recovery area. The Northeast Methodist Hospital will include a new general lobby area, a 20,000-sf expansion of the emergency department and an 8,000-sf expansion for the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU). Also included is a new second and third floor post-surgery recovery section for a total of 48,000-sf.

 

For the Lewis Gale Medical Center project, new construction will comprise two additions to the existing facility. The surgical addition will house 11 new operating rooms, two dedicated open-heart rooms, a 15-bed Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), a nurse’s station and support areas. The oncology addition will expand services with ten chemotherapy infusion stations, physician office spaces and five exam rooms. Total square footage of new construction and renovations for both additions will be 88,477 sf. The construction phase is expected to continue until the summer of 2005 on all three projects. The Nashville office of Skanska is responsible for managing them.
