KAKAAKO, HAWAII - The University of Hawaii has received an additional $7.5 million from the National Institutes of Health to construct the Pacific Regional Biosafety Laboratory in Kakaako. An additional $2.5 million in funding from the University brings the estimated project value to $47.5 million. The three-story, 38,400-sf facility will accommodate infectious disease and select agent research on animals. The start date for construction, which was initially slated to begin in 2007, has not yet been set. The BSL-3 facility will be built adjacent to the John A.
