East High School in Williamsville, N.Y., worked with Trautman Associates of Buffalo and Lumen Power Sources, a representative of H.E. Williams, to upgrade the high school's lighting system. The new system incorporates 1,756 U5 Low Glare parabolic luminaries, modified to fit the building's preexisting demountable partition 5x5 modular ceiling system. Mounted approximately 10 feet above the floor on 10-foot centers, the new lighting system utilizes 32-watt T-8 fluorescent lamps and provides light in excess of 30 footcandles. The three-phase, 277/480 volts system is controlled by a combination of occupancy and ambient light sensors, depending on the location in the school.

The new lighting system replaced a 40-watt T12 system and qualified the project, together with a new heat pump system and lighting controls, for a New York State Research and Development Administration (NYSRDA) energy conservation rebate for the Williamsville Central School District. The project team included project manager Ciminelli-Cowper of Buffalo and electrical contractor Industrial Power and Lighting of Buffalo. H.E. Williams supplied technical information for the project, which was completed in time for the fall 2002 semester.
