Kaiser Permanente is building the $327-million Santa Clara Hospital. The 1.2-million-sf hospital and medical office complex will be accompanied by a four-story, 1,470-car parking garage which will break ground in November 2002. The first phase of construction includes a 550,000-sf medical office building and a 300,000-sf ancillary building expected to open in fall of 2004. The second phase consists of a three-story, 400,000-sf hospital with a new cardiovascular surgery center slated to open in 2006. The hospital will feature earthquake resistant beams imported from Japan. Kaiser plans to consolidate and expand pediatric services in the existing 1963 hospital facility. Fully digital imaging will be implemented in the new medical center, replacing X-ray technology. Rudolph & Sletten is general contractor and manager of the project.
