Antron Introduces Green Glossary Environmental reference guide creates a standard language for FMs, architects, and designers
HOUSTON, April 21, 2004--Antron® and the International Facility Management Association (IFMA) announce the development of "The Green Glossary for High Performance Buildings," a lexicon containing 360 standardized environmental terms.
"Providing a common language for facility managers is a crucial step in integrating high performance, environmentally favorable products, and maintenance techniques into the specification process and beyond," says Cylette Willis, Ph.D., vice president of professional development for IFMA. "By combining forces to offer this invaluable resource, IFMA and Antron are helping drive the industry toward more environmentally focused decision-making."
"We felt it was necessary to establish a universal language for environmental design and construction, thus creating a standard that will help members of our industry become more knowledgeable about the importance of green practices," says Mark Ryan, environmental initiatives manager for INVISTA. "INVISTA is pleased to further its commitment to sustainability by partnering with leading organizations on key environmental initiatives."
"The Green Glossary," intended to serve as a reference guide for those involved in the design, construction, ownership, and management of high performance green buildings, is based on accepted industry definitions and terminology and is endorsed by leading industry associations, including the Association of Higher Education Facilities Officers (APPA), International Interior Design Association (IIDA), and U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).
Currently in the United States, an estimated $15 billion worth of commercial green buildings are in design or under construction—or about 12 to 15 percent of public construction and two percent of private-sector construction.
