Molecular Medicine Research Lab Uses Blueskin(R) Building Envelope to Achieve Laboratory Air Quality Conditions Henry(R) Company Building Science Technology Enables Life Science Research at University of Texas Houston Campus
Huntington Park, Calif.--April 2006--There are no drafty rooms, building air leaks, or tolerance for external climate intrusion by allergens, dust, or chemical vapors at the new seven-story, 230,000-sf Institute of Molecular Medicine for the Prevention of Human Diseases (IMM) research facility, at the University of Texas, Houston campus.
The new home for the scientific study of genetics, stem cells, neuroscience, DNA, molecular medicine, and human diseases has Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) that is just about perfect. Thanks to advances in building science and breakthroughs in building products from Henry® Company, the University has a world-class facility to commit to the research that saves lives.
Energy efficient, air-tight, able to withstand hurricane force winds, the Fayez S. Sarofim Research Building, expected to open in Spring 2006, is a microbiological safe zone that is also sensitive to human comfort, creativity, and collaboration.
Protected by a revolutionary Building Envelope System® called Blueskin® and manufactured by Henry® Company, the goal of reaching a level of perfect, or "laboratory condition indoor air quality" has been made possible.
Two types of Blueskin® products were used in the construction of Institute of Molecular Medicine. The primary membrane used in wall construction and curtains, door openings is Blueskin® SA, Self-Adhesive Air and Vapor Barrier Membrane. Blueskin PE200 HT High Temperature Self Adhered Roof Underlayment was used as the protective barrier on the crowning roof structure. Together the Blueskin® roofing and wall membranes form a Building Envelope System® that provides excellent indoor air quality and help lower building energy costs.
All Blueskin® membranes are easy to apply by certified professionals, with a simple self adhering peel-and-stick interface. These weather barriers provide excellent separation between internal and external environments by blocking climate factors like air, moisture/vapor, and preventing environmental pollutants like dust, toxic vapors, and allergens from passing through the building's structural materials.
While the benefits of Blueskin® will help the University research center reach its necessary isolation from external climate pollutants and weather conditions, the benefits of the air and vapor systems will also help conserve building energy, extend the lifespan of the building, and help create a pristine internal climate. The Blueskin® Air and Vapor Barriers specified in the construction of this project help the University set a standard in sustainable building design, and promote tenant and building health.
Henry® Company is the leading innovator of Building Envelope Systems® and understands the principals of integrating air and vapor barriers, roofing and waterproofing systems to ensure superior building performance.
From rooftop to foundation, Henry® professionals offer designers, contractors and building owners a combination of technical experience and a commitment to provide quality products. For more than 70 years, Henry® has been the trusted source for complete building solutions.
