URS PROVIDING GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEERING SERVICES FOR CAPITOL AREA EAST END COMPLEX IN SACRAMENTO
San Francisco, CA (July 18, 2000) The Dames & Moore division of URS Corporation has been selected to provide geotechnical engineering, environmental consulting, and construction monitoring services for the development of the Capitol Area East End Complex (Buildings 171-174) in downtown Sacramento. Dames & Moore will provide these services to Clark/Gruen Design/Build Inc., the primary constructor for the project.
The project is being built for the State of California, and will house approximately 4,800 employees of the Department of General Services and the Department of Health Services. The project will include two six-story and two seven-story office buildings as part of the complex, located east of the State Capitol Building and Capitol Park. The four buildings are expected to total approximately 1,110,000 gross square feet in addition to one level of below-grade parking and five levels of above-grade parking.
Areas of environmental concern already have been identified at the site. Dames & Moore will conduct additional sampling and investigation activities to assess the extent of soil and groundwater contamination and evaluate remedial options. Geotechnical services will include evaluation of the alternative foundation support systems; recommendations for excavation and shoring systems to minimize the adverse effects adjacent structures, streets, and utilities; and development of groundwater cutoff and/or dewatering methods. On-site construction services include vibration monitoring, shoring and foundation systems installation monitoring, and management of soil during construction to minimize contaminated soil disposal costs. Construction is expected to start in the summer of 2000 and be completed by early 2003. Total project construction cost is estimated at $225 million.
Dames & Moore is a division of URS Corporation, a publicly owned company listed on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE:URS).
