Kroll and Sceptor to Design and Market Monitoring Systems for Biological and Chemical Threats
NEW YORK—In response to federal and state government initiatives against biological and chemical terrorism, Kroll Inc. (Nasdaq: KROL), the global risk consulting company, has formed a strategic alliance with Sceptor Industries Inc., a leading provider of technology for the detection and monitoring of bio-chemical threats. Kroll is combining its security consulting and engineering expertise with Sceptor's technological and bio-terrorism expertise to provide monitoring systems for regional "early warning" networks, public transportation systems, building air intakes, food and agricultural security, and cargo safety.
"The combination of our core strengths enables us to offer the most effective and comprehensive solutions for the early detection and identification of chemical and biological threats," says Jeffrey Schlanger, chief operating officer, Kroll's Security Services Group. "This is a key alliance for Kroll because it expands our services in the Homeland Security market and equips us to meet corporate demands for the most technologically advanced security measures."
The monitoring systems set up by Kroll and Sceptor will utilize Sceptor's SpinCon ® product, which is recognized as the most advanced air sampling and collection technology for bio-safety and chemical defense. SpinCon ® has already been deployed in more than 125 indoor and outdoor venues and, most recently, was selected for use by U.S. Postal Service in the pilot-test of an automated bio-agent detection system for large-scale automated mail sorting equipment.
"Working with a recognized market leader like Kroll gives Sceptor an unparalleled opportunity to provide its services and technology to customers worldwide. We are excited about partnering with Kroll to provide biosafety solutions for Kroll's clients," says Dr. Jeffrey Jonas, president and chairman of Sceptor.
The partnership will also enable Kroll and Sceptor to jointly develop additional security solutions utilizing pioneering technologies developed by other organizations, including the Midwest Research Institute (MRI), a non-profit scientific research institute. MRI, which is a major shareholder of Sceptor, has a long history of providing innovative technology solutions for government security needs.
