Reed Construction Data Launches Private Plan Room Provides an inexpensive method to distribute plans and specifications online
NORCROSS, GA (March 3, 2003) -Reed Construction Data (formerly CMD), a leading provider of quality construction information products and services, today announced the launch of its Private Plan Room. Through this plan room, the company is able to offer owners, developers, and general contractors a service that makes the bidding process more efficient by posting their plans and specifications online. As a result, owners, developers, and general contractors are able to invite subcontractors and suppliers to their Private Plan Room with a password that allows them to access their site to view and order plans, which are delivered to them the next day in hard copy form or electronically as a download.
In conjunction with a third party vendor, Private Plan Rooms are set up for customers for a nominal one-time fee for document management, ordering, and archiving. There is a minimal, annual hosting fee as well. Through the Private Plan Room, owners, developers, and general contractors have complete control over which projects they post on the secure Web site and which businesses have access to their documents.
"For owners, developers, and general contractors, getting plans and specs to the necessary businesses in a timely fashion during the bidding phase is crucial," says David Windsor, director, product management for Reed Construction Data. "It is particularly beneficial to the subcontractor. Through the Private Plan Room, the subcontractor gains immediate access to new projects to bid and can begin their estimating process immediately, saving them time and money."
The launch of this new product will benefit Reed Construction Data customers by:
• Providing a low cost alternative to plan distribution for owners, developers, and general contractors
• Providing timely delivery of plans to contractors and suppliers
• Improving efficiency of plan distribution; saving time for the owners, developers and general contractors
• Decreasing delivery time of addenda to bidding contractors
• Lowering the cost alternative of plan acquisition for the subcontractors and suppliers rather than through traditional methods (blue printers or reprographers)
• Offering free delivery of plans from customers to vendor for processing
• Offering free processing (scanning and indexing) of plans and loading to a secure Web site
• Offering overnight delivery of hard copy plans and specifications to accounts through an online ordering process
• Offering immediate delivery of plans and specifications electronically through download
"This service began as a pilot program in one of our markets, and because of its success, we decided to expand it to all of our customers throughout the United States," says Charlie Spahr, senior vice president of product management for Reed Construction Data. "We are pleased to offer another value-added product for our customers that essentially makes their jobs easier-leaving them time to focus on the important aspects of their businesses. This was the catalyst for implementing this new product."
