PG&E SELECTS SILICON ENERGY TECHNOLOGY FOR PROGRAM TO REDUCE INDUSTRIAL CUSTOMERS' ENERGY USE Technology Enables PG&E to Address Energy Concerns With Incentives for Commercial & Industrial
ALAMEDA, Calif., (May 29, 2001) - Silicon Energy, providing leading Internet-based Enterprise Energy Management technology, today announced that Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) has selected its EEM Suite* energy technology software as the infrastructure for PG&E's new Inter-Act program.
Inter-Act was designed to promote incentive-based load reduction from large commercial and industrial customers. Powered by Silicon Energy, the Inter-Act program uses the Internet-based EEM Suite to allow customers to retrieve valuable information on energy consumption and control their usage at any connected facility--all from a desktop. By providing customers with energy usage information, PG&E believes it can help its customers to use this information to reduce peak demand. Already, PG&E has 37 customers representing 43 megawatts connected to the Inter-Act system, and significant recruitment is underway in preparation for the summer season.
EEM Suite* allows users to gain a true measurement of energy usage by revealing cost variability and impact on profit margins. By integrating the EEM Suite into their energy strategies, commercial and industrial users can access the same consumption data as their utility. In addition, EEM Suite provides accurate energy-use forecasts that ensure compliance with load reduction requests. The robustness of the EEM Suite allows users to take basic meter data and combine value added enterprise operating information, day-ahead forecasting, bill analysis, and distributed energy resources to mitigate the risk of rising energy costs on their business.
"Silicon Energy is pleased to provide PG&E with the technology to drive competitive energy load reduction programs via Inter-Act," said John Woolard, president and chief executive of Silicon Energy. "We believe that with our technology, PG&E will be able to target, manage and implement programs that can have an immediate meaningful impact on California's power costs and reliability."
