Abbott Laboratories Installs New Batch Processor from EWI
Ajax, Ontario, CANADA – (May 8, 2007) – Environmental Waste International Inc. (EWI) (TSX-V: EWS) has completed the installation and commissioning of the FS-POD unit at Abbott Laboratories. EWI attended Abbott’s facility to train key personnel in the operation and maintenance of the system. Abbott conducted their own safety audit of the equipment as well as arranging for representatives to observe and acknowledge the fully automatic operation of the system. EWI is working with Abbott to ensure that the system will continue to function regardless of the operational or surrounding conditions. Abbott has asked EWI to quote on an ongoing maintenance program for the FS-POD unit.
The FS-POD is a batch processor designed for the sterilization of effluents based on the company’s patented microwave delivery system. The unit is small enough to fit under a laboratory countertop yet robust enough to sterilize the effluents from any Biological Safety Level (BSL) facility. The system allows the contaminated liquids to be sterilized onsite without the need for larger and more costly central processing units.
Since its introduction late last year there has been growing interest in the FS-POD for use in new facilities as well as upgrading and retrofitting projects in several US and Canadian sites. EWI has recently held talks with sales groups interested in representing this product in the biological waste and biocontainment industries.
EWI has designed systems for the sterilization of medical and animal waste, liquid waste and food waste as well as the treatment of several other organic waste streams including the breakdown of used tires. EWI continues to work on designs for other processors. Please visit EWI’s home page at www.ewmc.com.
