Applied Geographics Develops Web Site for Rutgers University Site Supports Capital Project Planning and Management
BOSTON - April 25, 2005 - Applied Geographics Inc. (AppGeo) is developing a Capital Projects Web site for Rutgers University. The Office of Planning and Development is looking to develop the Web site to share information regarding capital projects on the five campuses that make up the University. The objective is to provide capital project managers, university executives, and academic staff a tool to quickly see the geographic distribution of capital projects along with pertinent information on the status of those projects both in summary and detail form.
Central to the application is the capability to easily navigate to any campus area or project and to retrieve capital data as a set of records or as a set of summary metrics displayed in tables and graphs. Additionally, the application user will be able to view photographs and a live camera feed from a project Web cam. The Capital Projects Web site will be tightly integrated into the Rutgers Facilities and Planning Geographic Information System (GIS) and will include a general-purpose map viewing capability.
"Rutgers University is on the forefront of recognizing the power of GIS technology to create a useful organizing framework for tracking capital projects across multiple campuses," say Rich Grady, president of Applied Geographics. "This Web-based approach is applicable to any large organization with geographically distributed assets and multiple locations, and contributes to improved facilities management, space accounting, and planning."
