Reed Construction Data Releases New 2004 Editions of RS Means Cost Data Books and CostWorks Software
KINGSTON, MA (December 17, 2003) - RSMeans, a product line of Reed Construction Data, announces the release of the 2004 editions of its Cost Data publications-available in both print and electronic CostWorks formats. RSMeans construction Cost Data books and software provide essential cost information for contractors, owners, architects, engineers, facilities managers, appraisers, and anyone requiring fast and reliable construction costs for estimating, budgeting, or verification.
"Every year RSMeans researchers make thousands of inquiries into the cost of labor and materials used in all types of construction so our customers don't have to," says Roger Grant, vice president, Product Management. "We follow the same procedures to produce consistent results that users can rely on any time they pick up one of our products."
The new 2004 editions of RSMeans cost books include its widely used and respected flagship publication, Building Construction Cost Data, which has been updated annually for 62 years, as well as 26 other publications on commercial and residential construction. These annual references provide costs for new and remodeling construction, including specialties such as mechanical, electrical, plumbing, concrete and masonry, site work and landscaping, environmental remediation, and heavy construction.
CostWorks 2004 provides electronic access to 18 of the print cost data books. The software includes tools to search and organize cost data easily, create customized cost reports, create user-defined data, merge multiple cost lists, and add or adjust costs. CostWorks localizes costs to specific geographical areas for enhanced accuracy.
Along with the updated pricing of all of the thousands of line items they contain, the 2004 editions include new information and price changes for lumber, steel, asphalt, insulation, PVC, and trade labor costs. Also new this year, are more than 300 additional unit prices for green building construction components and for security materials and systems, as well as an important reorganization of the site work division.
"Construction labor and material prices are changing all the time, and new types of materials and procedures are being developed and put into practice. By providing the latest information, we strive to help the construction industry conduct sound economic analysis," says Grant.
Cost product customers also receive free access to RSMeans cost editors through the Estimating Hotline-and quarterly email notifications of cost index and key materials updates.
