Franklin, N.H.--Polyclad Laminates recently opened their newly constructed clean room space for the assembling of copper and prepreg sheets for printed circuit boards. The construction phase was less than sixteen weeks from demolition to certification of the clean rooms. Hodess Building Company teamed with H.L. Turner Group (architect) and R.D. Kimball (engineer) on the facility.
?The project was a design build, which began with six weeks of mechanical, electrical, and architectural engineering, followed by an aggressive sixteen week construction schedule,? explained Joe Loiselle, facilities engineering manager at Polyclad Laminates. ?Commissioning of the rooms and equipment was on schedule and within budget and we are now producing exceptional laminate and are continuing to improve the surrounding processes.?
Work on the project involved demolishing 5,000 square feet of existing space to create a new clean room area consisting of a Class 100,000 gowning room and four Class 10,000 clean rooms. A Class 100 Build-up room with raised access flooring is the centerpiece of the project. HBC had to incorporate the owners? conveyor system and lift stations into a series of pressurized pass-through?s running from room to room. In addition, the project included a complete walkable/serviceable plenum separating the space above each of the clean rooms.
