WESTBORO, MA ? A new CD-ROM Declassifier has been introduced by Security Engineered Machinery. The Model 1250B provides maximum data protection by rendering CDs completely unreadable. The unit incorporates a patent-pending impregnation procedure, which causes irreversible damage to all data-bearing surfaces. Specially designed embossing dies distort both the disk substrate (polycarbonate plastic) and the information-bearing surface (reflective layer). This distortion makes it impossible for the laser to properly reflect light back to the readers? optical sensor, but keeps the identification label intact for archival purposes.
Operation is simple and quick. Users feed CDs into the top slot, they are impregnated in less than five seconds and drop into a collection bin where they remain until they are disposed with regular nonclassified waste. The machine is quiet, compact, and attractively finished to blend with any office decor. It is mounted on casters for easy relocation.
The Model 1250B meets all Department of Defense specifications for the destruction or defacing of optical media.
