New Biobased Scale & Corrosion Control For Cooling Towers And Water Systems
Cortec® Corporation (St. Paul, MN) introduces a new bio-based building block that effectively fights scale and corrosion in cooling towers or closed and open loop recirculating cooling systems. S-14 Bio is proven to be 91 percent bio-based and environmentally friendly. This green additive is a rare combination of powerful scale inhibitor and excellent multi-metal corrosion protection. In contrast to conventional antiscalant products that offer no multi-metal corrosion protection, S-14 Bio protects carbon steel, galvanized steel, aluminum, copper, and other nonferrous metals while providing anti- scaling control.
Cortec® chemists designed S-14 Bio after extensive research based on Cortec's commitment to advanced green technology platform. This building block is based on low molecular weight natural polymer components, GRAS (Generally Recognized as Safe) substances, and food-approved preservatives. S-14 Bio is non-toxic and readily bio-degradable, offering an environmentally friendly solution to conventional water treatment products. The readily bio-degradable product is effective in a variety of open and closed systems at low dosages. S-14 Bio also incorporates Cortec's proprietary Vapor phase Corrosion Inhibiting (VpCI) Technology offering unique advantages over conventional chemicals.
S-14 Bio is tested against generic antiscalants such as phosphonates, polyacrylates, and polyaspartic acid measuring the levels of corrosion protection in liquid, vapor, and water-air interphase of a cooling system. Compared to the conventional antiscalants that provided limited corrosion protection, S-14 Bio showed excellent protection for all metals tested (carbon steel, galvanized steel, and copper). S-14 Bio is compatible with most common water treatment programs. It is available in 5-gallon (19 liters) containers, 55-gallon (208 litters) metal drums, 275-gallon liquid totes, and bulk.
