Faster Construction Specifications with Enhanced Software Products
ATLANTA, GA -- March 20, 2002 -- Building Systems Design announces the immediate availability of new versions of its two groundbreaking specification writing products, BSD SpecLink(R) and PerSpective(R). Released in early March 2002, the new version of each product has many improved productivity features. These include a number of functions that have been totally rewritten to eliminate document reloading after processing, thereby streamlining the editing process.
BSD SpecLink is used for preparing construction specifications, while the newer PerSpective product is designed for preparing performance specifications early in a project, before building materials and systems have been selected. Both products have been enhanced by the addition of new user-modifiable default capabilities, including project folder location, export folder location, and project selection view. Perhaps the most timesaving new feature, however, is a new setting that allows the user to automatically select any new text added to a project. A corresponding improvement in the Import from Clipboard feature is an option to select all new paragraphs being imported from word processing. This is a major timesaver when large blocks of text are being imported for immediate use in a project.
The quarterly update installation process for both products has also been enhanced. Both SpecLink and PerSpective can be installed on a network and can be made available to any number of workstations, each of which is updated each quarter. The software now looks in the registry to determine where the previous version was installed and installs the update in the same location automatically. A new security feature prevents the user from inadvertently using the software after the server update has been completed but before the client update has been finished.
Both SpecLink and PerSpective include master data that is maintained in a relational database, rather than word processing files. The user's project files are stored separately and are merged with the master data for viewing and printing edited specification documents. The database structure allows selective updating on a paragraph-by-paragraph basis and also makes possible BSD's exclusive linking feature. Thousands of links in the master database improve productivity by automatically selecting related text and excluding incompatible options as the user selects paragraphs for a particular project.
