New ARCHIBUS/FM V.14.3 Multi-Lingual Pack Unifies Global Deployments
February 10, 2005—Boston, Massachusetts—As more organizations extend their operations, their management systems must be able to coordinate work in far-flung locations, from cities to countries, and synthesize business results in multiple languages. The new ARCHIBUS/FM V.14.3 addresses this trend with a multi-lingual product architecture that understands the meaning and role of every piece of information entered or retrieved within the system. Whether a user is working in Spanish in Barcelona or French in Le Havre, whether he uses Windows-based platform or logs in over the Web—the system can interpret data as it is entered and interpret it for colleagues who speak other languages. This high level of coordination applies to every activity within the system, from standardizing property cash flow projections to retrieving horizontal cabling details, and every single ARCHIBUS/FM task in between.
The release—built on a decade-long ARCHIBUS/FM localization effort and years of feedback from professionals around the globe—offers the largest correlation dictionary available for facility and infrastructure management work. In fact, the active correlation dictionaries for Spanish, German, French, and English International alone include 100,000 entries.
Easily Perform Global Analyses
"This multi-lingual pack makes it easy to communicate the organization's overall mission to all offices, regardless of country or locale," says Jim Goodfield, vice president of Business Development. "With its ability to localize languages and currencies, the pack provides a common model for representing organization-wide operations. Users can instantly roll-up statuses and Key Performance Indicator information to perform consolidated global analyses." For example, the system makes it easy to compare lease rates and space use patterns in common terms across all sites, letting users assess their relative performance and recommend action plans.
Deep Synchronization
ARCHIBUS/FM V.14.3's interoperable model synchronizes data on a very deep level. As soon as corporate standards, such as accounts, region codes, or space categories are added, the program immediately uses them to control data entry and to aggregate the results with these consistent roll-up categories.
Transactions that occur in different domains, such as space management and building maintenance, are also reconciled against a single, interoperable facility and infrastructure profile. For example, a room entered in a CAD system feeds directly into a lease chargeback program, while lease chargeback results feed directly into property costs. These in turn are reflected in the property cost model, cash flow, and forecasting areas of the system. As such, users across the enterprise have access to the same up-to-date information on which to base decisions without translation delays or errors.
Security
Security roles and profiles also follow centralized definitions, ensuring that when users log in they see the language desktop established for their own locale. For example, an English speaker may not understand a report with titles such as "Cuentas por pagar" or "Facturas sin emitir," but since his view presents these as "Accounts Receivable" and "Unissued Invoices," the meaning of the data is clear, even if the person entering in the costs and invoices was working in a different location.
Meanwhile, the system automatically applies any restrictions imposed by users' security permissions. Security group codes can be set and aggregated into roles using a flexible scheme that allows for hierarchies and wildcards, so users can quickly organize information by site, management level, or department.
