New Air Conditioning Systems Provide an Economical and Flexible Solution to Constant or VAV Needs
Skil-aire, a leader in precision air conditioning, purification, and environmental control systems, announces the Convertible Vertical line, a selection of Constant or Variable Air Volume air conditioning systems in capacities of five through 100 tons. These new, compact Skil-aire models offer dependable ventilation, dehumidification, and air conditioning for virtually any enclosure, and can provide substantial operational savings through the use of a DDC or microprocessor controller that assures minimum energy consumption at full or partial load.
This new vertical product offering provides floor-by-floor design flexibility for new construction, replacement, and renovation applications. Individual floors of a building using Convertible Verticals can be occupied as soon as each unit is set up. Individual units may be updated or otherwise modified without disrupting an entire building. Also, each unit can be metered, allowing individual tenants to be billed separately.
"Convertible" in the system's name refers to the fact that the units are highly customizable. Each Convertible Vertical is available with many factory-installed options such as alternate fan motor drive packages for high airflow and static requirements; crankcase heaters to reduce dilution of oil or refrigerant during the compressor off cycle; or hydronic economizers to cool the space without using the energy-intensive compressor.
"The 'vertical' part of the product name denotes that this appliance series floor-standing, as opposed to horizontal systems that are ceiling, slab, or under-floor mounted," says Lisa Ambrose, president of Skil-aire. "Also, because it is floor-standing, the Convertible Vertical's has a small footprint, which conserves space."
The compact Convertible Vertical can be located anywhere, in an equipment room or in the space to be conditioned--in schools, libraries, skyscrapers, even stadiums. Factory-installed piping and a pre-wired electrical "heart" simplify connection. Easy-to-remove panels give complete access to internal components and controls. An anti-short cycle circuit minimizes power surges.
Whether customers select a water-cooled or air-cooled model, they will notice immediate savings with features such as Variable Air Volume and forward-curved fans that move large volumes of air at lower RPM, and more quietly than most fans.
"VAV saves energy by adjusting the fan motors to deliver cooling as needed," says Ambrose. "VAV systems have dampers on the registers where air enters the room. A microprocessor/Direct Digital Controller is what 'tells' the damper whether to open or close."
