CARRIER CORP. ESTABLISHES TECHNOLOGY ALLIANCE WITH SILICON ENERGY -- Reseller Agreement Enhances Leading HVAC Offering and Opens New Revenue Channels
ALAMEDA, Calif., (July 19, 2000) - Silicon Energy today announced it has finalized a technology alliance and reseller agreement with worldwide HVAC leader Carrier Corp., a subsidiary of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX), to market Silicon Energy's Enterprise Energy Management (EEM) software.
Under the agreement, Carrier will serve as a reseller for Silicon Energy's EEM software products. In addition to offering Silicon Energy's suite to Carrier building controls system customers, the agreement also allows Carrier to license the software for internal use or for use by other United Technologies Corp. (UTC) divisions. UTC divisions include Pratt & Whitney, Otis Elevator Company, Hamilton Sundstrand, Sikorsky and International Fuel Cells.
The agreement is an extension of the successful partnership between the two companies to create the ComfortChoiceSM program, which uses the Internet to allow utilities to adjust a homeowner's temperature setpoint during peak energy-demand times to reduce energy usage. The program helps utilities like Puget Sound Energy and Northeast Utilities' Connecticut Light & Power division reduce demand, save energy and enhance customer value.
"The Silicon Energy suite of energy management software products allows us to provide a single source for comprehensive energy management and HVAC solutions for large buildings and organizations with multiple commercial real estate sites," says Kenneth Fox, vice president and general manager of Carrier Electronics. "Silicon Energy's software opens up an entirely new level of control and flexibility over energy costs by interfacing through our existing and future building controls system offerings."
According to John Woolard, chief executive of Silicon Energy, "This is a powerful partnership agreement that opens up an opportunity for new revenue streams for Silicon Energy, as well as for Carrier. With Carrier, we are teaming with the world's largest manufacturer of commercial and residential HVAC systems at a time when energy cost and availability, particularly with the impact of electric deregulation in many states, is top of mind among many organizations. As a result, we expect to accelerate the proliferation of our energy management software and products among a broad base of users."
United Technologies Corp. also invested in Silicon Energy's recently completed $20 million strategic financing round.
