Multidisciplinary Research Facility
The Biotechnology and Interdisciplinary Studies Building has been designed to house a diversity of programs that represent research interests centered on various sub disciplines of biology, chemistry, materials science, and their confluence with emerging nanotechnologies and applicable engineering techniques and methods of analyses. The interdisciplinary nature of the research efforts to be supported by this building will be shaped by the experimental and theoretical interaction between researchers and faculty. Research focus areas will include Functional Tissue Engineering, Integrative Systems Biology, Biocomputation and Bioinformatics, Biocatalysis and Metabolic Engineering, Biology and Biochemistry, Biochemistry and Biophysics, Nanobiotechnology, Biochips and Microsystems and Bioimaging and Bioinstrumentation. Supporting these research laboratories will be Core Facilities consolidating expensive equipment and specialized technical support. The Core Facilities include Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Analytical Biochemistry, NMR, Microbiology, Electron Microscopy, Histology, Tissue and Cell Culture, Scientific Computing and Visualization, Materials Characterization, High Throughput, and an Animal Facility.
