Peter F. Drucker Graduate Management Center

The building serves two separate curriculums--the MBA program and the Executive Management program. Each is administered separately and caters to distinctly different student cultures. The full-time MBA students are more integrated into the larger life of the Graduate University, taking classes in the existing buildings as well as in the Drucker Center. The executives arrive after work or on weekends. The Drucker Center is their campus. The exterior court was a key program element in defining, symbolically and functionally, this campus-within-a-campus. This space is used for large receptions, breakout space for large caserooms, and informal spaces for study.

The caserooms are sophisticated electronic classrooms with distance learning capability. The seating geometry is carefully constructed to allow maximum student interaction as well as instructor focused teaching.

The stepped-floor caserooms, flexible classrooms, and breakout rooms are located on the lower level, directly accessible to the exterior garden court. Primary entry is at the first level, which houses Administration. The circulation zone fronting the court contains the stairs and lobbies, and is an extension of the exterior space. The third floor belongs to the faculty.

The Study Center is expressed as a pavilion in the garden. This space serves as an electronic library, a study lounge, and a reception pavilion for social gatherings. The upper court is an outdoor extension of this space and provides a visual link between the street and the lower court.

About the Reported Cost Figures
The cost figures reported are supplied by the firms that submitted these projects for publication, which in most cases are the designers or builders. Whereas these sources are intimately familiar with their projects, they may not be fully aware of the owners' finally-realized and recorded costs. In some cases, costs are truly and completely accounted for, and in others they represent a near approximation of the final costs. Costs have not been adjusted for year of construction, nor has any attempt been made to make regional cost adjustments.

Further, costs are not comparable on any kind of detailed standard costing model. Hence, it is possible for the cost of one building to include a steam boiler, while the cost of a comparable building might not include the boiler, if steam is being supplied from an already existing campus grid. Or, in another case, a building might include excess boiler capacity to supply steam to another building. Some submittals include fees or unusual site improvements as part of the construction costs, which others do not.
