The second and third floors of the facility?approximately 17,637 gsf each?house BL 2 and BL 3 laboratories, offices for principle investigators and laboratory support space. The first floor?approximately 19,548 gsf?houses laboratories similar to the upper levels as well as a seminar room for in-house lectures, meetings and general use by the Emory University campus. The basement floor is approximately 15,240 gsf and includes a staff lounge, showers, lockers and toilets for caretakers looking after primates housed in other campus facilities. It also houses a vivarium with both a dirty and clean cage area, BL 3 rooms, general animal housing rooms, a procedure room, food and bedding storage, an isolation room for quarantine and cubicle rooms. The Center is equipped with a rooftop penthouse where the major HVAC hardware is located.
The main entrance to the facility emerges from the building's curved façade. Exterior materials include a random-stacked, light-colored stone veneer at the base of the structure, metallic panels at the entry roof, brick veneer with precast bands and punched windows, as well as silver metallic painted copings and metal insert panels in the glass curtain walls. A staircase connects the first, second and third floors and is designed to encourage interaction between colleagues.
